Official Rules
Last updated 11 August 2026
The short version
The Cipher runs for four weeks, 21 July to 16 August 2026. Each week has one challenge and its own leaderboard. What that board ranks is published before the week starts and is stated in section 3: Week 1 ranks by qualified volume, Week 2 ranks by number of successful referrals. You win by your position on the board - there is no element of chance for competitors. Prizes are fixed and published here, in advance.
1. How to enter
- Open xPortal and go to The Cipher in the Dapps section.
- Connect your wallet. This is a login only - it never moves funds and at most asks you to sign a message.
- Do the current week’s challenge actions inside xPortal.
You join once and you are entered for all four weeks.
2. Main wallets only
Entry is with your main xPortal wallet. Secondary wallets are not eligible: cards can only be issued on a main wallet, and a secondary wallet can be attached to several users at once, so it does not identify one participant.
3. What counts, week by week
Each week is ranked on one criterion only, published below before that week begins. A week’s criterion applies to that week’s leaderboard alone.
Week 1 (21 - 26 July) - qualified volume
Rankings count only:
- Spot actions of the current week’s challenge type: on-ramp purchases, swaps, and card spending at merchants. Raw card top-ups and balances you simply hold do not count.
- Actions of USD 10 or more. Smaller actions do not count.
- Up to USD 80,000 of qualified swap volume and USD 20,000 of qualified on-ramp volume per participant, per week. Volume beyond a cap does not count.
- The Week 1 ranking is decided by qualified volume only - the number of transactions never affects your position, only their combined qualified volume does, always under the caps above.
The caps are deliberate and non-negotiable. They exist so that nobody can - or has any reason to - spend without limit to chase a prize. Once you reach a cap, more activity earns you nothing in this competition.
Week 2 (27 July - 2 August) - successful referrals
Week 2 is not ranked by volume. It is ranked by your number of successful referrals. A referral is successful when all of the following are true:
- The person is new to xPortal and creates their account using your referral code or link.
- They complete their first crypto purchase in xPortal using the in-app Buy feature (an on-ramp). Deposits, transfers in, swaps and card top-ups do not count.
- That purchase happens during Week 2, between Monday 27 July 00:00 UTC and Sunday 2 August 23:59:59 UTC.
One successful referral forges your Week 2 sigil. Every further successful referral moves you up the Week 2 leaderboard. The amount your friend buys does not affect your position - only the number of successful referrals does. These rules set no minimum purchase; the on-ramp provider used for the purchase applies its own minimum, which is shown in the app before the purchase is made.
Referring yourself does not count. Referrals from accounts belonging to the same person, from duplicate or automated sign-ups, or from accounts later found ineligible, do not count and are removed from the ranking. The referred person is under no obligation to buy, and buying more than once brings the person who referred them no additional position.
The xPortal referral programme itself - and any reward the referrer or the referred person receives inside the app - is governed by the referral programme terms in the app, not by these rules.
Week 3 (3 - 9 August) - swap volume across networks
Week 3 is ranked by swap volume, increased by how many networks that volume is spread across.
- Swaps only. On-ramp purchases do not count towards Week 3. They still count towards your Week 1 sigil.
- Swaps of USD 10 or more, measured on the value of the swap itself. Smaller swaps do not count towards your volume.
- Every swap counts as both a buy and a sell. A USD 50 swap between two tokens on the same network is USD 100 of volume on that network. A USD 50 swap from a token on one network to a token on another is USD 50 of volume on each of the two networks.
- Up to USD 200,000 of volume per participant for the week. Swaps beyond that still count for eligibility and still forge your sigil, but add nothing further to your score.
How networks change your score. Your volume is grouped by network and those networks are ranked, largest first. Your largest network counts in full. Each further network adds another 10% to the volume on it - the second +10%, the third +20%, the fourth +30%, and so on. The increase stops at +100%, reached from your eleventh network onwards.
Volume on Robinhood Chain counts twice. A USD 50 swap there is USD 200 of volume rather than USD 100. That doubled figure is what is then ranked and increased under the rule above.
Because each network’s increase applies only to the volume on that network, a very small swap on an extra network adds only a very small amount to a score.
One qualifying swap forges your Week 3 sigil. Everything above only decides your position on the Week 3 leaderboard.
Ties in Week 3. Where two or more participants are level, the higher rank goes to the one with the greater total volume before any network increase is applied. This replaces the general tie rule in section 4 for Week 3 only.
The cap is deliberate and non-negotiable. It exists so that nobody can - or has any reason to - swap without limit to chase a prize. Once you reach it, more volume earns you nothing in this competition.
Week 4 (10 - 16 August) - XP earned during the week
Week 4 is ranked by the XP you earn during Week 4. XP is xPortal’s existing in-app experience system: the app shows which actions earn XP and how much, and those values are the same for everyone.
- XP earned during the week counts, plus one-time missions you have already completed. Ordinary XP collected before Monday 10 August 00:00 UTC stays yours in the app but does not count towards this leaderboard. One-time missions are the exception: because each one can only ever be completed once, the XP from any one-time mission you have finished counts towards Week 4 even if you finished it before the week began. On all other XP, every participant starts the week level.
- The week runs from Monday 10 August 00:00 UTC to Sunday 16 August 23:59 UTC. XP earned outside that window never counts towards it.
- The daily and per-action XP limits in the app apply unchanged. They are part of the XP system, not of this competition, and they are the same for every participant.
- XP received from Mystery Boxes does not count towards the Week 4 leaderboard.
- The first XP you earn in the week forges your Week 4 sigil.Everything above only decides your position on the Week 4 leaderboard.
Positions only. The Week 4 leaderboard shows ranks, not XP totals. Your own position is shown to you when you are ranked.
Ties in Week 4. Where two or more participants have earned the same XP during the week, the higher rank goes to the one who reached that total first. This replaces the general tie rule in section 4 for Week 4 only.
XP awarded manually by support, corrected, reversed or granted as compensation does not count towards the Week 4 leaderboard. XP obtained through activity that breaches the xPortal Terms of Service does not count either, and may result in disqualification under section 7.
4. Prizes
Up to USD 15,000 in cash prizes across the season, published in advance: USD 8,000 is fixed (weekly leaderboards USD 5,200, season runners-up USD 1,800, visitor draws USD 1,000), plus the chest, which starts at USD 1,000 and is capped at USD 5,000. Additional prizes may be added during the season; any addition is published on this page before it applies and never reduces a prize listed here. Competition cash prizes are won by leaderboard position only; the sole exception is the free visitor draw below, which is closed to competitors.
Each week’s leaderboard (Monday to Sunday)
| Position | Prize |
|---|---|
| 1st | USD 500 in EGLD |
| 2nd - 5th | USD 200 in EGLD each |
| 6th - 15th | 1 month of xPortal Pro |
Season finale - 17 August 2026, 12:00 EEST
| Position | Prize |
|---|---|
| No. 1 overall | The Chest - up to USD 5,000 in EGLD |
| 2nd - 5th overall | USD 450 in EGLD each |
How the season ranking is built. The season is not a single pot of volume. Each week has its own criterion (Week 1 qualified volume, Week 2 successful referrals, and so on), and what carries into the season is your finishing position in each week. Every week counts for exactly the same, no matter what its challenge was.
- Your season score is the sum of your four weekly positions. Finishing 1st in Week 1 and 5th in Week 2 scores 1 + 5 = 6.
- The lowest total wins - the participant with the lowest season score is No. 1 overall and takes the chest.
- If you are not ranked in a week - you did not complete it, or you completed it after the week ended - you are counted for that week as one place behind the last ranked participant of that week. You are never removed from the season for missing a week, but a missed week costs you.
- Season ties are broken by the participant’s best single weekly position; if that is also equal, by who reached it first, by the timestamp in xPortal’s backend. Never by draw.
Weekly positions are the ones published when each week settles (within 48 hours of that week ending). A weekly position, once settled and past the contestation window in section 8, is the one used for the season.
How the chest grows. The chest starts at USD 1,000. During each of the four weeks it grows by USD 1 for every participant who completes that week’s challenge (closes that week’s seal), up to a maximum of USD 1,000 of growth per week. Joining alone does not increase it - only completed seals do. It is capped at USD 5,000. The figure shown on the front page is always its current, funded value.
| By the end of | The chest can reach |
|---|---|
| Week 1 | USD 2,000 |
| Week 2 | USD 3,000 |
| Week 3 | USD 4,000 |
| Week 4 | USD 5,000 (cap) |
Ties. Ties are broken deterministically: where two or more participants finish level on that week’s criterion - equal qualified volume, or in Week 2 an equal number of successful referrals - the higher rank goes to the one who reached that figure first, by the timestamp recorded in xPortal’s backend (which is authoritative). Ties are never resolved by random selection or draw.
Free visitor draw - no entry, no purchase
Each week, USD 250 in EGLD goes to one visitor selected at random from those who connected a wallet on this page but did not enter the competition. No purchase and no action of any kind is required, and entering the competition makes you ineligible for this draw. This is the only randomly awarded prize in The Cipher.
How the draw works. At the end of each weekly period, every eligible wallet is assigned a sequential entry number. The winning number is then selected using a free public draw on random.org. The winner is announced on this page (by shortened wallet address) and the prize is sent to the winning wallet, in each case within 3 days of the end of that weekly period.
Pro upgrades - season ranks 21 to 45
Season leaderboard ranks 21 to 45: 1 month of xPortal Pro each (25 upgrades in total). Allocation is deterministic, by final season leaderboard position - there is no element of chance. These are service upgrades, not cash; prizes for competitors are never awarded at random.
Referral boost - for everyone
For the duration of the promotion (21 July to 16 August 2026), xPortal’s referral rewards are doubled. The boost applies to all users - including those who cannot enter the competition - and is governed by the xPortal referral programme terms in the app, not by these rules. It is not part of the competition prize pool.
5. Weekly challenges
Week 1 (21 - 26 July): on-ramp purchases and swaps, ranked by qualified volume. Week 2 (27 July - 2 August): successful referrals, ranked by their number. Week 3 (3 - 9 August): swap volume, increased by the number of networks it is spread across. Week 4 (10 - 16 August): XP earned during that week, ranked highest first. Each week’s challenge is announced when its week begins, together with the criterion its leaderboard uses. The prize structure above is the same every week; only the challenge actions change.
Each week counts only in its own week. Qualified volume, successful referrals and XP count towards a week’s leaderboard only while that week is running. You may complete a previous week’s challenge later to forge its sigil and remain eligible for the season finale - but actions done after a week has ended never add to any leaderboard.
6. Winners and payment
Leaderboards settle at the end of each week from the backend’s transaction records, which are authoritative. Winners are notified in-app. Winners are displayed by shortened wallet address only. The EGLD amount is calculated from the USD value at the time the prize is sent.
Identity verification (KYC) before payment. Before any cash prize is paid, the winner must successfully complete identity verification (KYC). This confirms the winner is eligible to receive the prize and ensures that a single person cannot occupy multiple winning positions in the same ranking. The KYC steps and the window to complete them are communicated to each winner at the time of notification. A winner who does not complete KYC within that window, or who is found ineligible, forfeits the prize, which may then pass to the next eligible participant. Once KYC is confirmed, prizes are paid in EGLD directly to the winner’s wallet - no gas to pay.
7. When the challenges close and the chest opens
The challenges run through the full final day: all four weeks close on 16 August 2026, 23:59:59 UTC. Actions up to that moment count; nothing after it does. The chest then opens on 17 August 2026, 12:00 EEST - the season leaderboard settles and the chest goes to its No. 1.
8. Winners, announcement and contestations
Each weekly leaderboard settles within 48 hours of its week ending; the season ranking settles within 48 hours of the close (16 August 2026, 23:59:59 UTC). Winners are announced on this page by shortened wallet address and notified in-app.
Any participant may contest a result within 48 hours of its announcement via support in the xPortal app, stating the wallet address and the reason. Contestations are resolved from the backend’s transaction records, which are authoritative, within 5 working days, and the outcome is communicated to the contestant.
9. Fair play
We may disqualify entries where we reasonably believe someone has used multiple accounts, automated or scripted activity, self-dealing trades, or any method intended to manipulate rankings. We will say so and give the reason.
10. Sanctions and AML-restricted jurisdictions
Participation is not open to, and prizes will not be paid to, any person who is: (a) resident or located in, or a national of, any country or territory subject to comprehensive sanctions by the European Union, the United Nations, the United States (OFAC) or Liechtenstein (currently including, without limitation, North Korea, Iran, Syria, Cuba, and the Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine); (b) resident or located in a jurisdiction identified from time to time as high-risk on the FATF list of “Jurisdictions subject to a Call for Action” or the EU list of high-risk third countries for AML/CFT purposes; or (c) a designated person on, or acting for anyone on, any applicable sanctions or asset-freeze list.
These lists change over time; the exclusion applies to the versions in force at the moment of entry and of prize payment. The Organizer may require identity and sanctions-screening checks before paying any prize, may withhold or cancel a prize where a payment would breach applicable sanctions or AML/CFT law, and may exclude any participant where required to comply with such law. Any determination by the Organizer or its regulated partners on these matters is final.
11. Changes
We may amend these rules or end the promotion where required for legal, regulatory, security or technical reasons. Changes are published here. Prizes already won are not taken back.
12. Organizer and sponsor
This promotion is organized and solely sponsored by xPortal Equity AG (Liechtenstein). The promotion runs from 21 July 2026 until 16 August 2026, 23:59:59 UTC. Apple is not a sponsor of, and is not involved in, this promotion in any way. Residents of the United Kingdom cannot take part - see Eligibility for territories and tax.
Crypto-asset values can go down as well as up and you may lose the value of your holdings. Nothing in this promotion is investment advice or a reason to transact beyond your means - the caps above exist precisely so that competing never requires unlimited spending. Do not take part with money you cannot afford to lose.
